Is Ancelotti worth it?
I have followed him for quite some time. His teams play attractive football, but crack when they face attacking opponents. Milan head to head balance vs Roma, Inter and Juve is terrible. During the years Milan had matches where it completely lost the plot like
vs Liverpool 3-3
vs Deportivo 0-4, first leg won 4-1
Can Chelsea afford to have this type of manager, with such tactical and mental fragility?
You point out the bad stuff but none of the positive points of Ancelotti.
He has won FOUR Champions Leagues. Two as a player and two as a manager. Yes he has had bag games but which great manager hasn't?
Mourinho lost 3-1 to lowly Atalanta in Serie A this year with a great Inter side.
Ferguson lost 4-1 to Liverpool this season
etc,
What about AC Milan's 2-0 win vs Bayern Munich in the semis in 2007? And the 3-0 demolishing of ManU at San Siro? Milan beating arch-rivals Inter TWICE to reach CL finals in 2003 and 2007? Not bad... We've beaten Barca and Real Madrid in the 2003, 2005 and 2007 CL campaigns...
Do you not realize AC Milan is still the ONLY team to have been in THREE CL finals in the last 10 years (though they were in the last 6 years!!)?
The problem with Ancelotti was that his time in Milan was done with. He didn't renew the squad and in Italy, where the game is very tactical every opponent clearly understood his game and was able to counter it well.
But his palmares as a coach says it all:
3 times second placed in Serie A
One Serie A win
Three CL finals. TWO wins. Milan is the only team in the last 10 years to have been in THREE CL finals.
Two European Supercups
One World Club Cup
One League Cup
