Is the RAT RC-5 Cutlery Knife rust easily?
I am thinking of buying the RC-5 and i want to know if it is hard to take care of.

RC-5 is made from 1095 steel (like military "KaBar", Pilot Survival Knives, old bayonets, most old US military blades). It is a good high carbon steel for blades but it will rust. The RAT knives have a powder type coating (better than paint or parkerizing) that will keep the main part of the blade rust free for years but the cutting edge where the coating has been removed by sharpening will definitely rust. Pulled a bayonet (m6 I think) from sheath a few weeks ago - sharpened edge was badly rusted.
A little oil wiped on the blade will take care of that so it is no trouble. Just make sure it is dry and wipe it down (especially along edge) with an oily rag before storing. If used a great deal just wipe it down occasionally. There are some high tech rust preventatives but guns and knives were protected for many years with the oily rag.
If you want to use it for food preparation, you can wipe it off or wash it before using but I would carry a stainless blade for that.
