Can I Claim UK Tax Relief on a van and insurance i must have for work?
I work for a plumbing company carrying out minor building work, (Brick work, Plastering etc) I must have a van to be able to get from job to job each day and to carry materials.
Work will not pay for a van for me or insurance, diesel or even a company phone so i have to pay for all these myself.
I am paid minimum wage and the cost of my van, insurance, diesel and phone add up to £375 per month. am only paid after tax £772 per month.
I need some tax relief on what i pay for work stuff to be able to live. Without it, i am getting £100 more in debt each month.
I have looked for more jobs, but in the current climate their are non suited for me and i have been turned down for 300 jobs i have applied for in the last 3 months.
So i am stuck in my current job.

As an employee you can claim 40p pm for the first 10,000 miles driven for work and 25p pm thereafter. You can either complete a form P87 and send it to your tax office with your P60 to make your claim for 09-10, or set out your claim in a letter.
