Is it true the statue of liberty can fit inside the sears tower basement and only the hand and torch stick out?
Supposedly, the tour guide in Chicago said that the statue of liberty can fit inside the sears tower's basement , the only thing that would stick out would be her arm and torch , is this true ? i've looked up info on the sears tower is there a website where all this is explained , -scratching my head on this one ! thanks
The statue itself (above the base) is only 111 feet tall heel to head http://www.libertystatepark.org/statueofliberty/sol12.shtml which is well under 10% of the height of the Sears Tower, so it is perfectly possible that the part below ground (basement) is more than that.
This site http://www.sciencebuddies.org/science-fair-projects/project_ideas/CE_p022.shtml says the foundation is 100 feet deep (and claims it is an example where the foundation hasn't failed, but the Wikipedia article says it is 4" off vertical due to shifting under unbalanced weight load).
This site http://skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=5 says there are 3 floors to the basement and further down says the basement is 13.1 meters deep which is considerably less than the Height of Liberty.
